ICPRAM is a unique forum for universities, research groups and research projects to present their research and scientific results, be it by presenting a paper, hosting a tutorial or instructional course or demonstrating its research products in demo sessions, by contributing towards panels and discussions in the event's field of interest or by presenting their project, be it by setting up an exhibition booth, by being profiled in the event's web presence or printed materials or by suggesting keynote speakers or specific thematic sessions.

Special conditions are also available for Research Projects which wish to hold meetings at INSTICC events.

Advanced texture analysis techniques for building textural models, with applications in the study of the pathology evolution stages, based on ultrasound images

The purpose of our research is to develop non-invasive, computerized methods, based on ultrasound image information, for the computer-aided and automatic diagnosis of some severe affections, such as the diffuse liver diseases (steatosis, hepatitis and cirrhosis), the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and the colorectal tumours. We previously defined (in the context of national research projects) the textural model of these affections, consisting of: the set of the relevant textural features for characterizing these affections; the specific values of the relevant textural features (arithmetic mean, standard deviation, probability distribution). We validated our methods through powerful supervised classification techniques. In this project, we developed advanced, original texture analysis techniques, based on generalized co-occurrence matrices of superior order, in order to improve the accuracy of characterization and classification for these affections. We defined textural microstructure co-occurrence matrices, based on Laws’ and gradient features, and we studied the role of the corresponding Haralick parameters in the supervised classification of the considered affections, as well as in the unsupervised detection of the cirrhosis and HCC evolution phases.  Our research, developed at the Computer Science Department, of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, was performed in collaboration with the medical specialists from the Medical Imaging Department of the I. Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cluj-Napoca.


The project is focusing on the use of multi-channel biometrics for access control purpose. The choice of audio-visual analysis to perform identity verification can deliver high usability and low cost (based on the use of standard cameras embedded in smartphones, tablets and laptops). Ø The project will test the solution in three real-life use cases requiring various degrees of security: consumer use case (low security), eHealth use case (medium security) and workforce use case (high security). All scenarios will demonstrate an authentication over a secure broadband network giving access to specific services.
